Come to this page every week to keep up to date on what weekly assignments will keep you on track with your project. Whether working with a partner, or working on your project solo, you should be working each week on different part of your project. Some weeks you will be working on your narration, other times on the gathering photos and videos, other times just learning the software...and other times a synthesis of all parts.

This course is six weeks long. Each week will build upon itself focusing upon various parts of your project. A key component to this class will be collaboration with your classmates in terms of feedback and teamwork. Although we will do a great deal of work in the classroom, most of your work will be done outside of the classroom at home or with your classmate team members.

In this online course resource, you will find links to helpful websites, links to free downloads, forums to open discussion with all the members of the class and more. Additionally, you will find a week-to-week schedule of lessons and activities for each class.

What you will need in this class:

Personal Computer
Internet Access
Email for communication
Microphone
Speakers or headphones
Flash drive that holds at least 128 MB
Picasa (see Downloads section under Resources)
Audacity (see Downloads section under Resources)

Outside Tools

Although this class will be a great starting point for you, there are many other tools, programs and resources to make you a more dynamic writer, graphic designer, videography and producer. Here are some of things worth checking out (this list is by no means exhaustive, so please inform me if you would like to see other thing added to this list):

Photo Editing Tools

Gimp - This is a free (Open Source) photo editing tool. Comparable in scope to Photoshop, but FREE! A bit of a learning curve, but worth giving it a shot. Download here for Windows. Download here for Mac. Tutorials available here.
Adobe Photoshop - a powerful (but expensive) photo editing tool and a bit of learning curve, but still a great program.
Adobe Photoshop Elements - a powerful (but less expensive than Photshop) photo editing tool.
Microsoft Paint - Comes with all Windows computers. Basic image editing program that allow you to add text to images, resize photos and more. Free, but basic.
Mac Users - Here is a list of photo editing downloads available that are free or shareware...iPhoto also comes stock on your computer.

Video Editing Tools

iMovie - Comes free on all Mac computers. Can do a bit more than OTM, but a steeper learning curve, but not impossible to learn on your own.
Windows Movie Maker - Comes free on all Windows computers. Also, can do a bit more than OTM, and a bit of a learning curve, but can master after steady application.
Adobe Premier (Elements) - Adobe's digital video editing program. Very high-level and powerful program that can be used to make professional-grade movies.
Final Cut Pro - Apple's digital video editing program. Very high-level and powerful program that can be used to make professional-grade movies.

And as with anything in this world of ours, GOOGLE is an incredible tool to help in the learning process. If you Google for tips on how to conduct a certain procedure, you'll be surprised about how much is out there...including writing and storytelling tips.

Use this page to download free software applications that we will be using in this class.

Depending on your Operating System, you will be downloading Audacity from different links. For Windows, click on the first link and it will begin downloading immediately. For Apple computers, click on the link and choose your computer's specifications and download from there.

CONVERTING TO AN MP3

Windows Users
Audacity MP3 Encoder add-on - You will need this in order to convert your recorded files to MP3 from the .wav file you created in Audacity. . Click here to download and save (do not run) on your DESKTOP (very important so you can find it later on).

Once this is downloaded, following these instructions AFTER you have completed your file recording in Audacity:
Follow the steps to convert your audio to an MP3 (File...etc.)

When Audacity prompts you to find the LAME Encoder, find it on your desktop (where you saved it)...
Double click on the LAME icon
Continue the conversion process by following the prompts
Save the MP3 file in a place you will be able to find it.
You're done! (This is easier than it sounds, believe me)

MAC USERS READ THIS!!!

In order to get your recording from Audacity into OTM (that is, save it as an MP3), you must follow these steps....

When your recording is complete, in Audacity, go to File, Export as Wav.
Save your file somewhere you can find it.
Open up iTunes. Go to File and choose Import to Library and import your recording from where you saved it in Audacity.
It will now be in there as a WAV file...now you need to convert it to an AAC format.
You convert it by right-clicking (or control clicking) on the song and choosing convert to AAC...
Once you've done that, you are ready to import from One True Media...
